For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
- John 3:16
Salvation is received through faith. Romans 10:9-10 says that “if you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. By faith we repent of our sin, ask God for forgiveness and state belief in the life, death, and saving resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Prayer of salvation - Our First Real Conversation with God
We acknowledge that Jesus Christ is God; and that He came to earth as a man in order to live the sinless life that we cannot live; that He died in our place, so that we would not have to pay the penalty we deserve.
We confess our past life of sin -- living for ourselves and not obeying God.
We admit we are ready to trust Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord.
We ask Jesus to come into our heart, take up residence there, and begin living through us.
Following Jesus...it’s a war. It’s not joining “the happy club” and all of your problems will not go away the instant you receive salvation. There are battles, it is tough, and you will suffer. So before you commit to Christ, you have to think it through. Am I willing to suffer? Am I willing to fight? Again, Christianity isn’t showing up to church Sunday morning, feeling God/good, leaving, and doing it again next week. It’s faith with action.
If you sit on the sideline and do nothing, Satan’s probably not going to attack you. Similar to playing basketball, if you stand at half-court with no ball in your hand doing nothing - no one’s going to guard you. But if you take the ball, strive toward the net to score some points/make a goal you will encounter opposition. Your opponent will come against you and do any and everything in their power to prevent you from scoring. So it is with the spiritual world!
So if you really truly want to follow Jesus and live the life way He commands you to (to follow His morality - something that will become more and more unpopular in this earth) it’s going to be a war. He will give you rest, peace, joy, & strength, but you will have to fight. But greater is He that is in you, than He that is in the world!
"Father God, I admit that I am a sinner living outside of your will. I know that I need a savior and I believe that Jesus is the Son Of God. I believe that He came, lived a sinless life to die as payment for a penalty that was assigned to me. I believe that He rose from the grave and now makes intercession for me at Your right hand. Jesus, come into my heart, save my soul and walk with me for the rest of my days. From this day forward, I confess, that I will never be the same.
In Jesus name, Amen."
